Winter Storm Uri Community Relief Fund

PoP is offering $100 microgrants to assist San Antonio residents with plumbing repair expenses due to winter storm Uri.

A donation to PoP helps support our work, including funding for the Relief Grant program.

Program Summary

In the wake of Winter Storm Uri, thousands of San Antonians find themselves in damaged houses and saddled with huge repair bills, many related to burst pipes thanks to over 100 hours of freezing temperatures. In the worst situations, families are unable to return home due to the severity of the damage. We learned that residents of older and historic homes were disproportionately impacted by the storm; there is clear need for relief. The Power of Preservation Foundation aims to help these homeowners with the cost of repairs via the Winter Storm Uri Community Relief Fund, a needs-based microgrant program. The Power of Preservation Foundation (PoP) will provide $100 microgrants to eligible residents that have incurred plumbing damage due to Winter Storm Uri.

Do I qualify?

This program assists low- to moderate-income property owners and residents who live in residential structures constructed in 1960 or earlier that have plumbing damage as a result of Winter Storm Uri. The grants are eligible for both completed or planned (uncompleted) work. The program is open to both owners and renters. Grants will be limited to one per residential unit, and the applicant must meet the income requirements.

Qualification requirements:

  • Must be a low- to moderate-income household based on the 2020 local Area Median Income (AMI).

  • Must reside in a residential property; both single family and multifamily will be considered.

  • Must live in a building constructed in 1960 or earlier.

  • Must provide paperwork and other documentation that shows the work has already been completed or is planned (see “How to apply” below).

How will funds be administered?

This program is needs-based and assists low- to moderate-income residents who live in buildings constructed in 1960 or earlier. The Power of Preservation Foundation will evaluate applications based on need and on a rolling basis until funding is exhausted, and will re-open grants as funding is replenished via donations. An application does not guarantee support.

Microgrants will be disbursed via the payment method selected by the applicant on their application, to include Venmo, PayPal, or check.

How to apply:

If you meet the above criteria, please submit a completed application, along with the following documentation, via email:

  1. Proof of completed work (before and/or after photos, dated receipt of material purchase, paid invoice from contractor, etc) -OR- proof of damage to be repaired (photos, bid from contractor, etc); and

  2. Proof of ownership or residence (utility bill from the past 3 months, deed, mortgage statement, etc)
